Periodically we get inspired to record some of the more memorable days of trips that we have made. They serve to remind us of the things that we have done, the places we have been to and the people we have met and if we do not record them we tend to forget great chunks of the times we have spent away.
For those viewing these diaries we hope you find them interesting but they are more likely to be of interest only to our family and friends.

We made a booking with Airbnb to stay at Hawes Farm close to Broughton-in-Furness. The farm is owned by the National Trust and Kate Kirkwood, a photographer and book publisher, has lived there for the past fifteen years. The house was quite remote but well worth finding. From Broughton-in-Furness we took a road towards Coniston and not far along the road turned off through a couple of farms and along the narrowest of lanes bordered by typical English hedgerows before finally getting to Hawes Farm at the top of a hill. Kate made us so welcome when we arrived that we felt very much 'at... + details

We left London for the drive to Poynton to meet members of the family and celebrate my uncle's 93rd Birthday. We took a taxi to Hertz in Edgware Road where we picked up a car and headed up the Edgware Road to pick up the M40 and then the M6. Not long after we left Hertz Jenny realized that we had left an expensive box of chocolates in the fridge at the hotel. They were to be given to my uncle for his birthday (what else does a 93 year old need?). Jenny called the hotel to ask if they could post them but that seemed too hard for them so we arranged for someone to pick them up from the hotel... + details

On the ground floor at Harrods there were chocolates everywhere and trying to make a choice was challenging. There were large circular boxes that sold for four or five hundred dollars down to single chocolates for three or four dollars only! We eventually decided to buy a box of Harrods' branded chocolates which looked like a good option. We had planned to meet Jenny & Russell Middleton in Notting Hill Gate at 2.00pm outside of Jamie Oliver's shop. So we decided to spend the morning wandering through the wonderful food halls of Harrods. We wanted to buy a present for my uncle's ... + details

Jenny was feeling unwell when we arrived in London and a trip to a clinic in Paddington Station above Boots resolved the problem to everyone's relief. After a coffee in the station we took a taxi to Camden Lock, refreshed our 'phone with an Orange SIM card so that we could access the web and found a small Japanese restaurant to have some lunch. With all of those chores out of the way we were finally able to explore the Camden Markets. The street from the station to the bridge over the canal was packed with people and souvenir shops full of absolute rubbish. Everything had a Union... + details
