Periodically we get inspired to record some of the more memorable days of trips that we have made. They serve to remind us of the things that we have done, the places we have been to and the people we have met and if we do not record them we tend to forget great chunks of the times we have spent away.
For those viewing these diaries we hope you find them interesting but they are more likely to be of interest only to our family and friends.

Today we drove through St Pons de Thomieres on our way to Olargues. We wanted to see the cherry blossom in the valley. At the right time it would be spectacular but the weather was not so good and the blossom was starting to fall and the new growth of the leaves was taking over. Nevertheless it was pretty and a very worthwhile trip. It wasn't just the cherry blossom that was worth seeing but the valley, the river and some of the bridges were spectacular. When we got close to Olargues we could see the village on the side of the hill with the river valley to the left of the village, however... + details

The Sidobre is a mountainous area located in the south of the Massif central. It is a 15.3 km long, 6.6 km wide plateau made of granite and covered with forests. Originally composed of one single piece of rock, it cracked and weathered over time which accounts for the remarkable natural forms that can been seen in various parts of the park. We drove to the Maison de Sidobre and picked up a plan of the park. We had some lunch first at Le Bon Acceuil in Lacrouzette. It must rate as the worst meal we have had in France. We didn't have much time to decide what we wanted since it just started... + details

Well, I've got news for those who developed this list. As far as I can tell, for women at least, there is something that tops the list in spades. It occurs when women try to get their hair cut, coloured and styled in a foreign language and a foreign city. Believe me this is a terrible experience and no husband in his right... + details

France was shut as usual yesterday. In fact it's shut every Sunday, Monday and between midday and 2.00 pm every other day. At least in Mazamet and many other towns in France. The major cities don't have these restrictions but they are most inconvenient when they are applied. For those of us who are on holiday having trouble getting out of bed early in the morning, completing one's ablution and eating some breakfast before taking a short drive to the day's place of interest, it is usually close to midday when we are finally ready. The place we want to see is invariably shut so the only thing... + details
