To Flinders and back
Some friends of ours invited us to spend a couple of days with them at their house in Flinders. We set off from Deans Marsh to catch the 2.00pm ferry from Queenscliffe to Sorrento. It’s a twenty minute journey across Port Philip Bay and we disembarked at Sorrento and drove to Flinders. It’s a three hour journey when one takes into account the waiting time at the ferry terminal and all up I think we travelled around 140kms by road.
The weather was perfect and when we finally got to Bayviews at Flinders the agapanthus along the driveway were in full bloom and looking spectacular. The view across the paddocks looked directly towards Philip Island with Seal Rocks and the Nobbies able to be seen at the southern tip of the island.
Ella seemed a bit traumatised on the ferry but she was in great shape when we went to a dog friendly beach on the Shoreham side of Flinders pier. She settled into the house without too much drama and soon found her way onto an old couch. We went to the Flinders pub for an evening meal in the Bistro and it has changed a lot since we were last there. There is a lot of construction work at the back of the original pub to cater for conferences and the publican now owns the hotel opposite the pub. There’s money to be made in pubs and from the size of the bistro prices I am not surprised.
The next day we played a round of golf at the RACV Cape Schanck Resort. John and I played eighteen and Noelle and Jenny played the first nine holes. Just as well since the second nine was quite hilly. There was a ‘nearest the pin’ competition on the 7th hole across a fairly large lake. I managed to finish just under two meters from the hole and was nearest the pin at the time but I still don’t know if anyone beat that later in the day.
